Fair Housing Initiative
All people deserve housing that is safe, affordable, and free from discrimination.
Through the Fair Housing Initiative, CPLP helps people experiencing housing discrimination and other unlawful housing practices. We support people by advising them on their legal rights, the steps in filing a discrimination complaint, or in some cases, through assistance on a lawsuit. We also provide community education so that tenants are informed of their fair housing rights, and we lead on policy efforts to bolster discrimination protections under Colorado law.
The Fair Housing Initiative counsels and represents residents on issues of:
- Unlawful housing practices, including disability and source of income discrimination,
- Immigrant protections for tenants,
- Retaliation against tenants who have asserted their legal rights, and
- Other fair housing practices that impact housing equity.
Areas of Law:
- Federal Fair Housing Act
- Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act
- Colorado Immigrant Tenant Protection Act
- Colorado Rental Application Fairness Act
