Because housing justice is gender justice.
Gender-based violence is one of the leading causes of housing instability in Colorado. Victim-survivors of domestic and sexual violence, stalking, and unlawful sexual behavior often face steep barriers when trying to secure safe, stable housing.
Too often, abusers weaponize housing — by initiating evictions, damaging credit through economic coercion, or isolating victim-survivors from the support systems that could help them. Even though both Colorado and federal laws offer strong protections for victim-survivors, outdated and discriminatory practices by landlords and property managers continue to threaten the housing stability of those already in crisis.
What GAH Offers
We provide holistic housing support, including:
Legal Representation
- Eviction defense
- Support with lease terminations due to violence
- Advocacy against unlawful housing discrimination or retaliation
- Legal support for asserting state and federal housing rights including to challenge unlawful fees or charges tied to domestic or sexual violence
Housing Navigation & Support
- Assistance finding safe and stable housing
- Connections to community-based services and victim-survivor resources
- Advocacy with landlords and housing providers
Educación y divulgación
- Know Your Rights presentations for victim-survivor communities
- Training and resources for service providers, and advocates
- Public education campaigns on the intersection of gender-based violence and housing
