OUR WORK
What We Do
Studies show that eviction legal defense dramatically improves housing outcomes for tenants facing eviction. Yet, the majority of tenants go without legal representation, whereas landlords are represented in almost all cases.
CPLP believes that no one should lose their housing due to lack of access to justice.
CPLP connects low-income Coloradans facing eviction with staff and volunteer attorneys who provide critical legal assistance, at no cost to the client.

CPLP offers services for our clients that connect individuals seeking new housing arrangements with community housing navigators who are able to assist them in the often complex process of finding a new place to live.
CPLP works closely with community partners to support legislation and other policy initiatives that protect tenants, including laws that:
- Keep Coloradans in safe and stable housing
- Give tenants the resources to fight unfair evictions
- Prevent discrimination and predatory landlord practices
CPLP launched its Gender Advocacy in Housing Initiative to meet the unique needs of tenants who face housing instability after experiencing gender-based violence. Using trauma-informed and person-centered advocacy, CPLP fights for victim-survivors to vindicate their state and federal housing rights and maintain housing stability in the aftermath of abuse.
Mobile home communities are among the most important sources of affordable housing in Colorado. These communities provide housing stability for thousands of residents, many of whom are Spanish speaking, disabled, undocumented, or otherwise marginalized.
Mobile home residents often face unique and complex legal challenges like unfair evictions, park closures, and harassment.
Through the Fair Housing Initiative, CPLP helps people experiencing housing discrimination and other unlawful housing practices. We support people by advising them on their legal rights, the steps in filing a discrimination complaint, or in some cases, through assistance on a lawsuit. We also provide community education so that tenants are informed of their fair housing rights, and we lead on policy efforts to bolster discrimination protections under Colorado law.

The ex-husband of an employed single mother and domestic abuse survivor sought to terminate her parental rights because she was living at a Colorado Coalition for the Homeless facility. Her living situation was caused in part by his failure to pay child support.
